Soma Bhowmik has earned a Graduation (2012) and a Post-Graduation (2014) in History of Art from Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan. Presently she is pursuing her PhD on Curatorial Possibilities in Contemporary Art from Visva Bharati University. Her dissertation thesis on the Changing Iconography of Durga in the context of Urban Popular Culture has received scholarly attention and secured praiseworthy academic credit. Her strong academic background in art & art history has made her a passionate art-historian, art curator and art writer focussing mostly on modern and contemporary art. She has taught art history as a Guest Faculty at Amity University, Kolkata and Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata. Soma Bhowmik has curated several shows of modern and contemporary art in Kolkata and Delhi in association with various significant galleries and independently as well. Her curated shows have received acclamations from the press, media and the art fraternity as a whole. She has curated shows of the heritage artists, senior artists as well as junior artists with equal enthusiasm and in-depth understanding. Before joining Arts Acre Foundation she has worked as a curator in Maya Art Space and Emami Chisel Gallery thus acquiring a rich curatorial experience. She is a regular writer and art critic who has published several essays and reviews in different journals and art magazines both national and international. She has worked as the associate editor of ArtEast Magazine (Kolkata) since 2015. She has also written a monograph on the famous artist Hirendranath Dutta published by Rajya Charukala Parshad, Information and Culture Department, West Bengal Government. As the Director of Arts Acre Foundation, Soma is extending her expertise in Curatorial ventures and art history by conducting Art Appreciation courses, Seminars, Workshops and creating opportunities for increasing number of art viewers and art enthusiasts to visit the place and make the space vibrant with various meaningful activities.
Artist – Printmaking
Atin basak born in 1966 did his graduation from Govt. College of Art & Craft and Masters in print making from University of Baroda. He got scholarships from French Govt., Charles Wallace, U.K. & Junior fellowship from govt. of India. He won many national and international awards like Biennial of Portugal, Bharat Bhavan International Biennial, India etc. His works have been exhibited in many countries like U.K., France, Egypt, Hongkong and all over India. He had been taking graphics and printmaking workshops for over two decades and is very well-known nationally as well as internationally in the field of art. His work is in the collection of many museums and connoisseurs all over the world.
Samir Roy was born in 1961 and started his artistic journey with Bachelor degree in fine arts from Rabindra Bharati University. His works have been exhibited in galleries throughout the country and are part of various collections both in India and abroad. National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and Smederevo National Museum, Yugoslavia have his works in their collection. He received junior fellowship and subsequently senior fellowship from the ministry of Culture. He is a national award winner who got this award from most prestigious institute of India, Lalit Kala Academy. Apart from painting he has years of experience in taking art workshops across the spectrum.
Artist – Ceramics
Swapan was born in 1970 and started his artistic journey with Bachelor degree in fine arts with specialization in Ceramics from Govt. College of Art & Craft, Kolkata. He did his masters in ceramics from Kala Bhawan, Shantiniketan. He has many solo and group shows to his credit and has been invited to various countries for demonstrations and lectures. He is winner of National Cultural Scholarship from Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India and Merit scholarship from Kala Bhawan, Shantiniketan. He has taken many workshops across the country and over years has mastered different type of glazing techniques.
